I live with my grandparents. Living with them has taught me very many things that I would have not been able to learn by myself. I have for example learnt that I am not as clever as I thought I was. Many times my grandparents are able to see through me and in a gentle way tell me off and show me how very little I know. Many times when I get into a debate with them about some issue in life they usually come up tops and I am left feeling very foolish.
My grandparents have also helped me learn a great deal about health. They have helped me look at health and wellness in a completely different light, which I do not think I would have been able to do beforehand.
Living with my grandparents, I am usually responsible for ensuring that they eat healthy diets and that they take all the doses of their medication – of which they have several. Since I am very keen on doing this, and doing it well, it has forced me to go the extra step and research more about different health conditions and do general research on the body and its functions.
I am now much better equipped with knowledge about the body and how it functions. I know all the kinds of nutrients that are necessary for different functionalities in the body and I also know the kind of foods to cure or to help alleviate different types of health conditions.
One of the things that I feared most when I started living with my grandparents was either of my grandparents losing their memory or becoming senile.
I had observed other elderly people loose memory and become senile and I had dreaded the same ever happening to my grandparents. I love talking to them and hearing their wise words and I did not want this to be cut short by senility or any other mental condition. Due to my fears I have done thorough research on mental conditions and I know all the kinds of vitamins to turn to incase I notice any signs of memory loss or loss of mental focus.
As I tend to the needs of my elderly grandparents, I am reminded each day of my own health. My grandparents are in their late eighties and they are still quite healthy. They tell me that this is due to them observing healthy lifestyles and eating healthy foods throughout their younger years. As such, I am keen to also ensure that I take care of my health by having a healthy lifestyle.
To have a healthy lifestyle, I need to incorporate some form of physical exercise. I do not have enough physical exercise and I am aware of how pathetically physically unfit I am. To correct this, I am thinking of buying a home rowing machine which I can be using to work out from home. I want to get a home rowing machine since it will help me work out the whole of my body.
Unfortunately my grandparents won’t be able to use it since their arthritic condition will not allow them.
